Steve is just fantastic and perhaps the best small engine mechanic.I have ever watched and I have spent many many hours watching small engine mechanics. But what's really happening is he is adjusting the connection points on the cable through the outer plastic shield. And as a result it has the effect of shortening the steel cable. In the past I simply used zip ties and would attach the cable to the handle to make sure that it worked properly. Of course steve's idea is far superior. But as the cable continues to wear, Which most people mistakingly call stretch, Eventually there will not be enough adjustment on the outer plastic cable screw points to compensate. At that point you will need to resort to plastic zip Ties to attach the cable to the handle. Or simply spend ten dollars and replace the cable. Thanks again steve, you're the best! 👍👍👍

Well I tried it today on the neoprene handles on my zero turn. Worked quicker than I thought and now I don't have bare metal exposed. Another fine video Steve!!

Another video said to tip the mower forward, but that got oil in my air filter. I tipped it with muffler side down overnight, oil was leaking away from the air filter. Decided to do your trick with pulling the cable up to where there’s resistant, then reconnecting the spark plug boot and 🪄, engine started on 3rd pull with some smoke first timed then would start on first pull after the mower stopped due to running over a branch or whatever. Thank you so much!

Yes, the air gun trick on and off. For grips that might move , we did hairspray on our bikes. There was always hairspray around in the 80s.

Over kill... You don't need to do everything you shown, just pull the plug out NOT fill up the cylinder with fuel but clean plug up put back in then start it & generally will start right up works for me every time.

So, Steve, once you pull the rope to where it is locked and won't go any further, then just let it go and the rope should stay tout? Then I can tip the mower over with the muffler side down and the air filter on top, correct?

This comment is for anyone who has cleaned the carburetor and it still surges. Check your gaskets in between the carburetor and where it butts up to the engine. Mine surged and I cleaned the carburetor a million times but I never noticed that my gasket had a rip between the carburetor hole and the screw hole on the gasket and once I replaced it the mower worked perfectly fine.

Need to change the oil in an inherited Honda generator that was originally purchased in 2021. The oil I have on my shelf is Pennzoil with a date of 16feb21. Is this oil too old to bother using it for a change? Thanks Steve!

There's no way to unclog the gas cap with a wire? I just changed out my Craftsman Briggs and Stratton carburetor and fuel line last weekend and it starts up fine.

Hi Steve, another great video. I looked to see if you described the plug I’ve just had on a Stihl 051 AV electronic. The saw stopped and when we took the plug out there was a whisker across the gap. But what was also down between the insulator and the body were little round balls of something. I poked them out of the gap and cleaned the plug, got the saw started again but after a short time it fouled the plug again. Have you ever seen anything like this?

Great info to get the fuel residue out of engine- but what about buildup in muffler? Need a new one or is there a way to clean the oily residue out! Or just leave it?

Best way to clean the deck is to set the deck to the lowest height and after a storm find a puddle bigger than 2ft wide and 1 to 3 inches deep and start the blades

That's reminds me of. The screw you can take out on a echo wèed eater. End at spindle you can grease the same way .but most people don't that one of n the reason they only get a couple of years out of a high dollars echo or stihl other is fuels problems and filters With a little maintenance you can get a lot more service out of then just stay away from that junk like. Mtd. Or other which includes Troy builts and most of the other. Box store machine.

But the Low speed adjustment has to be fully in (Clock-wise). Back it out and it stops at about 1 turn CCW. Should I just accept that I have no adjustment or is there something causing that problem. I've had and used this blower for 20 years approximately. I mixed fresh fuel.

QUESTION: Is there a particular side that should be used for draining oil and a different side used for draining gasoline?

Supposedly, skin exposure to used oil causes cancer. Also - I’ve caught myself using a lot more chain oil than needed. I used to top it off, use the saw for 20 minutes, then hang it up in my shop . Chain oil would just drain out.

Can't thank you enough Steve. I'm at the summerhouse with no electricity, just this old generator nobody's used in more than five years. Darn thing wouldn't run no matter what I tried. Finally with my phone's battery at 15% I found your video and you showed me how to remove the main nozzle. Only thing I wasn't able to remove and clean before. A long screw helped extract it. That was the culprit, now we finally have electricity. Thank you!
